San Jose

San Jose City is our Capital; it is located in the Central Valley area of 44.60 km². The population is around 1 million people and the temperature is between 18-22°C degrees (64°F - 72°F).  San Jose City has the National Theater, many museums including the Jade Museum, the Gold Museum, the National Museum and the Children's Museum.  In downtown and surrounding areas you will find many different kinds of hotels, restaurants and tourist places.

Culture

Costa Rican culture is influenced by Spanish and indigenous culture, the latter being less evident in most of the country, with the exception of Limon, predominantly Black Jamaicans, and the Cordillera de Talamanca. In the 19th century, the Caribbean region of Costa Rica received a considerable number of immigrants that came first as workers during the construction of the railroads to the eastern coast and later settled in the area. Most of them were blacks that came from the English-speaking caribbean, who gave a distinctive cultural and ethnic identity to the region. There was also an important number of Chinese immigrants, who came first to the port-towns of Limon and Puntarenas and later spread in small numbers to most cities in the country. Currency

Our currency is call Colon and in plural colones. The places in our country accept US dollars just bring small bills $1, $5, $10, $20 but you could have the service exchange at the banks that offers services now from 9:00am to 5: 00 pm Monday to Saturday depends on the office or at the front desk of the hotels you could make some exchange too. The main credit cards like Master Card, American Express and Visa are accepted all over our country and we have ATM machines in our main towns.

International Airport

In Costa Rica we have two International Airports, Juan Santamaría Intenational Airport located in Alajuela Province just a few minutes from the Capital San José in the Central Valley. The airport code is SJO and now most of the USA and international airlines are landing here and also one of our domestic flight terminals operate here. The other one is call Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport located in Liberia City, Guanacaste close to the North Pacific Beaches. The airport code is LIR and the airport offers international airlines connections.

Food

Costa Rican food is a fusion cuisine. It combines elements of culinary traditions from Africa, Italy, France, China, and Spain, flavored by traditional grains (rice, corn, and beans), roots, spices (coriander, garlic, annatto, saffron, parsley, oregano, thyme, nutmeg, salt, and pepper), oils, sauces (Lizano, Soy, and Worcestershire), fresh fruit, and vegetables. The food is mild to slightly seasoned. The most common dishes that reflect the culture and are typically served in traditional restaurants are gallo pinto (translates to spotted rooster) and casados (translates to married). Gallo pinto is made of rice and beans seasoned with coriander, onions and Worcestershire sauce usually served for breakfast with scrambled or fried eggs and a cup of coffee. Sour cream is a popular accompaniment to gallo pinto.
