Rara Avis Rain Forest Lodge

If you are looking for tennis courts and swimming pools, hair dryers and televisions, Rara Avis is the wrong place. If what you seek is being in pure nature, deep in the rainforest, with clean and comfortable lodging, with home-style Costa Rican meals, no electricity plus an adventurous learning experience different from ordinary tourism, then Rara Avis will suit you. At the same time, you will be encouraging the wise use of the rainforest - the reason for the existence of Rara Avis. The lodge has three type of lodging: Waterfall Lodge: offers the comfortable and rustic eight rooms lodge, five-minute's walk from our spectacular double waterfall. Each room has its own bathroom (with a bathtub and hot water!), has a double bed, a single, and one or two fold-down bunks or loft beds, wrap-around balcony overlooking the rainforest and the lowlands and you can also watch birds right from your hammock. Set in the jungle, the lodge is located about 200 meters (600 ft) from our double waterfall, which can be visited in good physical condition and even swim at the base of the waterfalls in good weather. River-Edge Cabin: a beautiful ten minute's walk from the dining room, even deeper in the forest, lies our secluded two-room River Edge Cabin - ideal for birdwatchers and honeymoon couples. Each room has two double beds, a private bath with hot water, and solar-electric lighting 3-4 hours every night. The shared balcony with hammocks offers an unequalled view of the forest, accompanied by the murmur of the river. Capacity: 4 persons at double occupancy, 6 at triple and 8 at quadruple occupancy. Casitas: these are also rustic and pretty much basic, but agreeable two-room cabins with two bunk beds and a small porch in each room, every two rooms share a cold water bathroom and about five-minute's walk from the dining room. Normally preferred for budget travelers and student groups and scientist researchers, the Casitas are a quiet and superb site for birding .We have electricity 3-4 hours every night only at the dinning room and lodge office area using a diesel generator, you can ask for assistance to our staff to recharge batteries or medical equipment.

Located near Sarapiqui river, surround by beautiful gardens, the lodge offers 15 comfortable rooms with A/C, private bathroom, hot water, Wi-Fi, phone. Also restaurant service, souvenir store, parking area 24/7, there are 2 main buildings located on the same plot of land: the upper building has 7 bedrooms (2 bunk beds per room) and 4 shared bathrooms (with showers) located in common areas. The lower building has 3 bedrooms (two bunk beds per room), 1 bathroom (with shower), and also serves as a dining room and kitchen for the people staying in both the upper and lower buildings. The kitchen has a range top, coffeemaker, and basic dinnerware. The total capacity of the Field Station buildings is 40 people. This site has solar-panel-powered electricity and an electric generator. Also located near these two buildings is a covered structure used for different activities such as meetings, conferences, presentations, education and more.
